Gov't presents new buses to Ghana Prisons Service

As part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing commitment to modernising Ghana’s security services, the government has presented three new buses to the Ghana Prisons Service to improve the safe and efficient transportation of inmates across the country.
The new vehicles — a Toyota Coaster, Hyundai County, and Ashok Leyland — were provided with the support of the National Security Secretariat and Maripoma Company Limited.
The donation aims to enhance the movement of inmates to courts, medical facilities, and rehabilitation programmes, ensuring greater efficiency and dignity within the correctional system.
In addition to the vehicle presentation, the government announced a significant increase in the daily feeding allowance for prison inmates — from GHS 1.80 to GHS 5.00 — a move expected to improve nutrition and overall welfare for over 14,000 inmates nationwide.
Speaking during the presentation, the Minister for Interior, Mohmamed Mabarak Muntaka, representing the President, expressed appreciation to Ghana’s development partners and stakeholders for their continued collaboration and urged more institutions and private entities to support efforts to strengthen rehabilitation programmes and uphold human dignity within the prison system.
“We remain grateful to our partners for their contribution and call on others to support the Ghana Prisons Service in strengthening rehabilitation and human dignity,” he said.
