The Minister for Trade and Agri-Business, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its national metrology infrastructure as a key driver of industrialisation, trade, health, and innovation.

Speaking at the 18th General Assembly of the Intra-Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS) held in Accra, the Minister highlighted ongoing reforms being spearheaded by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), with support from international partners.

She said these reforms are critical to ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency across key sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, and logistics.

“Metrology is the bedrock of economic transformation,” Madam Ofosu-Adjare stated.

“We are transforming our national measurement infrastructure to support Ghana’s development agenda and global competitiveness.”

She emphasised that Ghana’s metrology reforms are fully aligned with the government’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme (24H+), an ambitious initiative expected to create over 1.7 million jobs.

The Assembly brought together metrology experts and stakeholders from across the continent to discuss innovations, collaboration, and capacity building to improve measurement systems and standards across Africa.

AFRIMETS is the continent’s premier body for advancing scientific and industrial metrology to support trade and economic integration.
