Lotus Mining Group, a small-scale mining company operating in Akyem Nanapa in the Atiwa East District, has firmly denied accusations of engaging in illegal mining activities, commonly referred to as "galamsey."
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr. Thomas Larbi, stated that Lotus Mining operates strictly within the boundaries of the law and holds the necessary permits for small-scale mining.
Speaking in response to recent public concerns, Mr. Larbi appealed for calm and urged residents to seek accurate information before concluding.
“We are committed to legal and responsible mining,” he said.
“Our operations are transparent, and we work closely with local authorities and stakeholders.”
Mr. Larbi also emphasised the company's efforts to support community development.
He cited ongoing road construction projects aimed at easing the transportation of farm produce, as well as other initiatives previously undertaken to benefit the people of Nanapa.
Following a meeting with the District Chief Executive (DCE) and other local stakeholders, he revealed that a special account has been created to fund further development projects in the area.
Meanwhile, opinion leaders in the Nanapa community have called for patience and unity.
They appealed to farmers and other residents to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to address any tensions and promote peace.
The community leaders stressed the importance of dialogue and cooperation in managing the social and environmental impacts of mining.
Lotus Mining Group’s reaffirmed dedication to lawful operations and community welfare is seen as a key step toward building trust and ensuring peaceful coexistence in the area, they claimed
