MP Ida Adjoa Asiedu breaks ground for the construction of a new ward at the Coaltar Health Centre

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ayensuano in the Eastern Region, Ida Adjoa Asiedu, has officially cut the sod for the construction of a new ward at the Coaltar Health Centre to improve healthcare delivery in the district.

The project, which is expected to be completed in six months, will comprise male and female wards, a consulting room, and washroom facilities.

During the ceremony, the MP also presented medical equipment to the Ayensuano Health Directorate for onward distribution to health facilities across the district. The items included delivery beds, digital foetal Doppler devices, blood pressure machines, adult weighing scales, suturing kits, privacy screens, gloves, and syringes.

Madam Asiedu explained that the project is being funded from her share of the Common Fund and forms part of her commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure within the constituency. She said Coaltar, as the district capital, was chosen as the starting point due to increased pressure on existing health facilities as a result of population growth.

“I am very glad that work on this ward is commencing, and I assure you that in the near future we will return here to commission it,” she stated.

She further indicated that the expansion would help improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in the area.

The District Director of Health Services, Francis Kwotua Apungu, commended the MP for the initiative, noting that it complements ongoing upgrades at the Asuboi and Amanase clinics.

He added that the inclusion of male and female wards, washrooms, an ultra-modern consulting room, and a laboratory demonstrates a strong commitment to strengthening the health system.

The project is expected to be completed and officially commissioned within six months.
