VP Opoku-Agyemang praises Tsatsu Tsikata’s influence on Ghana’s legal thought

The Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has praised Ghanaian legal practitioner Tsatsu Tsikata for his notable impact on legal thought and practice in the country.

She said Tsikata has, over the years, influenced legal outcomes while also contributing to the improvement of legal reasoning and debate in Ghana.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang made the remarks at the UPSA Law School honourific lecture and awards ceremony held on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. The event was themed “Celebrating the Lifetime Achievements of Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata.”

She stated that Tsikata’s work has contributed to shaping national discussions and the understanding of legal issues in Ghana.

“His works have helped shape how we think about Ghana. At the very personal level, I feel very privileged to be here today. Mr Tsatsu Tsikata’s career and journey have been defined by scholarship, advocacy, and public service,” she said.

The Vice President added that his influence goes beyond courtroom outcomes, highlighting his role in deepening legal discourse in the country.

“He has, over the years, shaped legal debates. He has not only influenced outcomes, but the quality of legal thinking,” she stated.

She described Tsikata’s career as one rooted in scholarship, advocacy, and public service, noting that it reflects professional excellence and intellectual discipline.

She further observed that his approach to the law shows a view of it not only as a profession but also as a discipline that requires rigour, independence, and sound judgement.

“His career reflects a particular understanding of the law, not only as a profession, but also as a discipline that demands rigour, independence and judgement,” she said.
