UDS Council meeting to appoint Vice Chancellor disrupted by unidentified armed men
A meeting of the University for Development Studies (UDS) Council to appoint a new Vice Chancellor was disrupted by unidentified men on Monday, April 13, 2026.
According to JoyNews, three candidates had been shortlisted, and council members were expected to make a decision when the meeting was interrupted in the afternoon.
According to a source, the men entered the meeting venue and indicated that they would not allow the council to proceed with the appointment.
The source said two of the men were carrying pistols.
“They walked to the chairman, who later placed a call to someone we do not know, and the meeting was brought to an abrupt end,” the source said.
The source questioned how the individuals became aware of the meeting location and raised concerns about the absence of security.
A similar disruption was reported during the same process in 2021.
The source noted that security should have been strengthened following the earlier incident to prevent a recurrence.
