Mahama announces plan to rehabilitate Tema Industrial Area through Public-Private Partnership
President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to rehabilitate the entire Tema Industrial Area through a partnership between government and the private sector.
The initiative will focus on upgrading roads, drainage systems, water supply and waste treatment facilities to modern standards.
The President made the announcement while commissioning the CBI Ghana Calcined Clay Plant and expanded cement facility. He also stressed the importance of succession planning in Ghanaian businesses, noting that it is essential to preserving the legacy of enterprises built through years of investment and sacrifice.
Addressing workers at the facility, President Mahama urged them to take pride in their roles, explaining that their efforts contribute directly to Ghana’s industrial transformation.
He added that the plant is strategically positioned to benefit from regional trade opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area. According to him, the use of locally sourced materials ensures that the cement produced meets the bloc’s rules-of-origin requirements, enabling Ghanaian cement to compete effectively in regional markets.
President Mahama also highlighted the project’s contribution to employment and economic activity. He explained that the plant will operate continuously throughout the year, in line with the government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy aimed at increasing productivity and expanding job opportunities.
The President further revealed that government has recently signed new agreements with partners in the Jubilee oil field to invest about two billion dollars to expand upstream oil and gas production.
He added that a separate agreement has also been signed with Eni, operator of the Sankofa field, which is expected to attract an additional one point five billion dollars in investment to increase gas supply for Ghana’s industrial development.
