EPA launches digital portal for building and infrastructure permits
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has rolled out a new digital platform that allows developers and contractors to apply online for environmental permits and clearances for construction and infrastructure projects.
Branded “EPA Goes Digital – One Portal. All of the EPA,” the initiative is designed to simplify and speed up the approval process for building projects while improving transparency and regulatory compliance.
The authority announced that all general construction and infrastructure projects can now submit applications electronically, eliminating the need for lengthy in-person visits and paperwork at EPA offices.
The move forms part of broader efforts to modernise public service delivery, reduce processing delays, and make it easier for businesses and individuals to meet environmental requirements before commencing projects.
Environmental permits are mandatory for many developments to ensure that construction activities do not harm ecosystems, water bodies, air quality, or surrounding communities.
By digitising the process, the EPA expects faster reviews, improved record-keeping, and better monitoring of projects nationwide.
The new system is also expected to enhance accessibility for applicants across the country, allowing them to track submissions, upload documents, and receive approvals online.
The EPA has encouraged contractors, real estate developers, engineers, and project managers to take advantage of the platform to secure the necessary environmental clearances before starting work.
The authority reiterated that obtaining environmental approval remains a critical step in responsible development, stressing that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility.
With the digital portal now live, stakeholders will benefit from a significant step toward efficient, technology-driven environmental governance in Ghana.
