Ashanti Festival 2026 launched to promote Asante culture
The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, in partnership with MTN Ghana, has officially launched the Ashanti Festival 2026, a month-long celebration aimed at preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Asanteman.
The festival, organised in collaboration with the Manhyia Palace, will feature a series of activities across Kumasi and surrounding communities.
One of the highlights is the Asante Kente Week, scheduled from March 23 to March 31, during which residents are encouraged to wear the traditional Kente cloth to celebrate its cultural significance.
The festival will climax with a grand durbar at the Kumasi Centre for National Culture.
As part of the celebrations, an under-17 inter-district football tournament — currently at the semi-final stage — is being held to identify and nurture young football talents for national development.
A major concert featuring both established and emerging artists is also expected to draw large crowds, alongside other activities designed to showcase Asante traditions and discover new talent.
Speaking at the launch, Frank Amoakohene commended sponsors, particularly MTN Ghana, for their commitment to promoting cultural heritage.
He also highlighted ongoing development initiatives and upcoming events in the region.
The Paramount Chief of Kwaman, Nana Debrah Boateng Bediako II, called on the people of the Asante Kingdom to take pride in their identity and traditions.
“Being Asante is something to celebrate, not to be ashamed of,” he stressed, urging residents to actively preserve and promote their cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, Simon Amoh, Senior Manager for General Trade in Northern Ghana at MTN, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for supporting the festival.
He noted that MTN recognises the vital role culture plays in society and remains committed to initiatives that celebrate African heritage.
The Ashanti Festival 2026 is expected to strengthen cultural identity while providing a platform for entertainment, tourism and youth development.
