SIM registration in Ghana to be free and fully self-service, says Minister Sam George
The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has confirmed that the upcoming SIM registration exercise will be completely free for all consumers and designed to ensure maximum comfort and convenience for Ghanaians.
Speaking at a media engagement, the minister said President John Dramani Mahama specifically instructed that the process be smooth and user-friendly, avoiding the stress and frustration experienced during the 2022-2023 registration exercise.
According to Mr George, the system is intentionally structured as a mainly self-service platform, allowing users to start and complete the registration entirely on their phone or handheld device, from anywhere in the world, without needing to visit a telco office or queue in person.
During the 2022-2023 registration exercise, self-service was only offered as a premium service costing GHS5, and many users reported multiple debits even when the service failed.
This time, however, the self-service option is available to all Ghanaians at no cost, and accessible globally.
The minister emphasised that these measures aim to make the SIM registration process convenient, efficient, and stress-free for everyone.
