Ghanaian musician Odeku La has shared insights into his music journey, financial realities, and personal growth during an interview on the popular radio programme Ayekoo Ayekoo on Accra FM, hosted by Docta Kay Nia.

Speaking candidly about whether music is financially rewarding for him, Odeku La admitted that the situation is mixed.

“Somehow yes, somehow no,” he said, explaining that while music brings opportunities, it does not always guarantee consistent income.

When asked about the possibility of signing to a record label, the artist indicated that he currently prefers working independently with his close circle.

According to him, he already has a dedicated team made up of friends who support his work. While he is open to partnerships, he believes joining a label is not the right step for him at the moment.

“I have a team I’m working with — my friends. We are working together. We can talk about partnerships, but for a label, no. I still have to work more,” he explained.

Reflecting on how his career and personality have evolved over time, Odeku La said he feels proud of the progress he has made since he started music.

He noted that his personality and demeanor were very different when he first entered the industry, but with time and experience, he has grown and become more confident.

“I feel very okay. I’m always happy to see my progress bit by bit. I wasn’t like this before — my personality and demeanor were different. Now I’m different, and I’m happy about the growth and the change till now,” he said.

The musician also used the opportunity to advise young and upcoming artists to take music seriously and treat it as a professional career rather than a hobby.

According to him, anyone who wants to pursue music must be ready to invest time, effort, and resources into the craft.

“I will encourage anyone who wants to do music to see music as a job and a business. If you are going to do it full-time, invest well and don’t take it as a joke like some people do. You have to bring your fears and everything into it,” he advised.
