Leaders of the Ga Dangme traditional authority have expressed deep concern over the decision to bury legendary Ghanaian highlife musician Daddy Lumba at his private residence in East Legon, arguing that the move violates longstanding customs of the land.

According to Rev Ankrah, who speaks on behalf of the Gborbu Wulomo-Shitse, Ga tradition does not permit the burial of individuals within residential communities.

He explained that such actions are considered spiritually inappropriate and could have negative consequences for the land and its people.

Rev Ankrah further noted that beyond the cultural implications, burying a body within a residential area may also raise environmental and public health concerns for residents in the surrounding community.

The traditional council also disclosed that the family head of the late musician, Kofi Owusu, had been officially summoned to appear before the Ga traditional leadership.

The summons was issued by the Ga overlord, Wor-Lumor Konor Numo Borkete Larweh Tsuru, with the meeting scheduled for March 13, 2026. However, Owusu reportedly failed to attend despite receiving a formal letter dated March 10.

Sources close to the traditional authorities indicate that his absence has triggered further concerns, with reports suggesting that his role as Abusuapanyin (family head) may have been withdrawn.

Ga Dangme leaders have therefore called on the family of Daddy Lumba to carry out the appropriate customary rites to cleanse the land and restore spiritual balance.

They stressed that while the late singer remains a revered national figure, the traditions and cultural laws of the Ga land must still be respected.
