Tensions erupt in Tano North NDC over school feeding programme

Tensions are mounting within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tano North Constituency of the Bono Region as internal disagreements over the administration of the School Feeding Programme spark division among local party executives.
The conflict, which has surfaced in the communities of Bomaa, Bredi, and Boukrukruwa, centres on allegations of favouritism and partisan manipulation in the selection of caterers.
Party insiders say the impasse is being fuelled by competing factions aligned with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Constituency Chairman, each accused of trying to influence the allocation of contracts for political and personal gain.
The power struggle has resulted in delays and confusion in the implementation of the School Feeding Programme in several basic schools, raising concerns among parents, teachers, and community leaders.
Local school authorities report that irregularities in the food supply have left some pupils without the daily meals that are essential to their nutrition, concentration, and overall academic performance.
“The programme was introduced to support schoolchildren and improve enrolment and learning outcomes.
Unfortunately, political infighting is now threatening its success in our area,” one headteacher lamented.
Amid growing frustration, stakeholders are calling on the regional leadership of the NDC to step in and mediate the dispute. They stress that the well-being of pupils must be prioritised over internal power struggles and political interests.
