Adom Bawuah calls for fresh NPP leadership, endorses Patrick Boamah for 2028 flagbearer

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adom Bawuah, has issued a strong call for the party to chart a new path by electing fresh leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking in an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show, hosted by Kaayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, Mr. Bawuah warned that the party risks prolonged opposition if it fails to break away from what he described as the failed legacy of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his appointees.
“It is time for the NPP to stop playing the ostrich. The party must face reality and accept that no appointee of former President Akufo-Addo has what it takes to restore the party’s fortunes,” he declared.
According to him, appointees of the former President, including the former Vice President, contributed little to grassroots development and instead pursued selfish interests.
“They were self-centred and greedy. Their only legacy is self-aggrandisement, not service,” he lamented.
Mr. Bawuah further noted that most of these appointees, who are now eyeing the flagbearership, have outlived their usefulness in the party.
“They should humbly step aside. The foundation of the NPP, built over 32 years, has been eroded by their actions, making the party unattractive to the youth,” he said.
He, however, singled out the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, as the most capable leader to turn things around for the NPP.
Patrick Boamah is the finest option for the NPP. He is a lawyer, youthful, principled, and a true grassroots politician.
He consistently polls more votes in his constituency than the party’s presidential candidates.
That speaks volumes about his appeal and competence,” Mr. Bawuah stated.
He warned that failing to rally behind Mr. Boamah could cost the NPP dearly in future elections.
“If the party makes the mistake of ignoring him, we should prepare for at least 12 years in opposition,” he cautioned.
Describing Boamah as “the only sheep among greedy wolves,” Mr. Bawuah urged the NPP to take a bold step by choosing a leader with integrity and genuine grassroots support.
Already, some polls by Musa Dankwah have this to say:
