Koforidua High Court dismisses Suhum parliamentary election petition
The Koforidua High Court has dismissed a parliamentary election petition challenging the outcome of the Suhum Constituency election in the Eastern Region.
The petition, filed under the case Kwadjo Asante vrs Frank Asiedu Bekoe (Protozoa) and Others, sought to contest the results of the parliamentary election in the constituency.
In its ruling, the court dismissed the petition, effectively upholding the election outcome and bringing the legal challenge to an end.
The decision clears the way for the respondent to retain the parliamentary seat without further legal impediments arising from the petition.
Details of the court’s reasoning and whether the petitioner intends to pursue further legal action were not immediately available at the time of filing this report.
The ruling marks a significant development in post-election litigation in the Eastern Region, particularly in the Suhum Constituency, where the contest had attracted public attention following the polls.
Speaking after the ruling, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Akwapim North Constituency, Sammy Awuku, said a cost of GHS200,000 was awarded against the petitioners.
He said initially, the plaintiff wanted GHS 500.00, but the Honourable Court deemed GHS 200,000 fit.
