C/R: Gomoa East MP donates relief items to flood victims

Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, Member of Parliament for Gomoa East Constituency in the Central Region, has extended support to victims of recent floods in the constituency with a donation of relief items to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The flooding, triggered by heavy rainfall last Saturday, displaced approximately 300 residents and left several homes submerged.
To help alleviate the suffering of affected families, the MP presented items including mattresses, mosquito nets, bags of rice, cooking oil, and other essentials.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr Paitoo advised residents living in flood-prone areas to consider relocating to safer grounds to protect their lives and property.
He was joined by Mr. Hassan Hamidu, the NADMO Director for Gomoa East, who toured the affected areas alongside the MP.
Mr. Hamidu raised serious concerns about the increasing trend of unauthorised construction on waterways, which he said contributes significantly to flooding in the area.
He revealed that NADMO is implementing measures to address the problem, including dredging major storm drains, demolishing illegal structures on waterways, and sensitising residents on the dangers of living in flood-prone zones.
