Assembly Members of the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region have formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to nominate Madam Sakina Oforiwaa as the District Chief Executive (DCE), citing her leadership track record, deep community ties, and the urgent need to fill the current administrative vacuum.

In a letter dated May 9, 2025, the Assembly Members expressed concern over the protracted delay in appointing a substantive DCE, warning that the situation is undermining effective governance and stalling critical development initiatives in the district.

According to the petitioners, the absence of a substantive DCE has disrupted the smooth coordination of government programmes, development projects, and day-to-day administration.

They noted that this delay poses serious risks to the district’s socio-economic progress and undermines the well-being of constituents.

The Assembly Members praised Sakina Oforiwaa for her "proven integrity, commitment, and leadership.

" They highlighted her ongoing engagement with traditional leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations, and the general public, describing her as a unifying figure with a deep understanding of the district’s needs.

“She has made active and visible contributions to the development of the district and commands respect across diverse interest groups,” the petition stated.

The Assembly Members also appealed to President Mahama’s commitment to gender equity in governance.

They emphasised that nominating Sakina Oforiwaa would reinforce the President’s pledge to ensure at least 30% representation of women in leadership roles.

The petition urged the President, in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development, to expedite the nomination process. The Assembly Members assured full support for her confirmation once nominated.

The group expressed confidence that Hon. Oforiwaa’s appointment would restore unity, enhance development delivery, and reflect the government’s commitment to inclusive and accountable leadership at the local level.

They concluded by urging swift action to restore administrative stability in the district and meet the development expectations of the people of Atwima Mponua.
