The Head of Monitoring and Intelligence at the National Security Secretariat, Hajia Rashida Mahama, has issued a strong warning to officials at axle weight stations across the country, demanding an immediate end to corrupt practices or face prosecution.

The warning was delivered during an official escort operation in which Hajia Mahama and her team accompanied cargo trucks from Ghana to the Togo border, following a safety request from a logistics company.

Along the route, she uncovered disturbing irregularities at several axle weighing stations.

Hajia Mahama revealed that some station officials were deliberately inflating the recorded weight of cargo in a scheme to extort money from truck drivers.

Even more troubling, she noted that certain personnel were allegedly colluding with companies to bypass the weighing process entirely, diverting state revenue into private pockets.

“This conduct is unacceptable and deeply troubling,” Hajia Mahama stated.

“It deprives the state of millions of Cedis that could be invested in essential infrastructure and development projects.”

She further expressed concern over the increasing trend of trucks being parked haphazardly along major highways, describing it as a major safety risk.

She warned that any truck found parked in an unauthorised location would be towed, and the drivers sanctioned accordingly.

Hajia Mahama emphasised the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption within the transport and logistics chain, urging all stakeholders to uphold integrity and prioritise national interest.
