A-G files extradition request for Ken Ofori-Atta
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that his office has formally initiated extradition proceedings against former Finance Minister, Mr. Kenneth Ofori-Atta, and Mr. Ernest Darko Akore, a former Chef de Cabinet at the Ministry of Finance.
According to Dr. Ayine, the extradition request was submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 10, 2025, for onward transmission to the United States Department of Justice, where the two individuals are believed to be located.
Addressing a news conference as part of the Government Accountability Series, the Attorney-General explained that the request was filed after issues raised in the initial extradition documentation were fully addressed by the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
He noted that with the request now officially lodged, the decision rests with the relevant authorities in the United States, particularly the judicial system, to determine whether the legal requirements for extradition have been met.
Dr. Ayine further disclosed that Mr. Ofori-Atta and seven other individuals are facing a total of 78 charges in relation to alleged offences under investigation.
The development marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to pursue accountability and ensure due process in high-profile financial and governance-related cases.
