Gov’t, MultiChoice Ghana reach agreement on new DSTV pricing effective October 1

The Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, Mr Sam George, has announced a landmark agreement between the government and MultiChoice Ghana that will see significant adjustments in DSTV pricing and services for subscribers.
The deal, reached after deliberations by a stakeholder committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, the National Communications Authority, MultiChoice Africa, and MultiChoice Ghana, aims to deliver better value to customers while tackling challenges affecting the pay-TV market.
Tackling Decoder PiracyA major concern raised during the negotiations was the cross-border piracy of DSTV decoders from Nigeria into Ghana, a practice that has cost the state tax revenue, shifted jobs away from Ghana, and deprived customers of proper service.
To address this, the committee recommended the establishment of a working group to implement measures against piracy.
New Pricing StructureUnder the new arrangement, effective October 1, 2025, DSTV subscribers in Ghana will enjoy more channels and better value across all packages:
Padi bouquet subscribers will be upgraded to Access (GH₵ 99), gaining 35 additional channels — a 40% savings.
Access bouquet subscribers will move to Family (GH₵ 190), with 19 more channels — a 48% savings.
Family package subscribers will be upgraded to Compact (GH₵ 380), with 22 extra channels, including live football — a 50% savings.
Compact package subscribers will be upgraded to Compact Plus (GH₵ 570), with 12 additional channels — a 33% savings.
Compact Plus package subscribers will move up to Premium (GH₵ 865), gaining 18 extra channels — a 34% savings.
Additionally, MultiChoice Africa will offer a GH₵ 555 subsidy on the Zap decoder and dish kit, enabling new customers to purchase at half the current price.
Gov’t Welcomes InitiativeMinister Sam George commended MultiChoice for demonstrating goodwill toward Ghanaian subscribers, stressing that the revised pricing structure will provide relief to households, enhance customer experience, and ensure the long-term sustainability of DSTV in Ghana.
The stakeholder committee will reconvene in three months to assess the impact of the new measures.
