The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has officially launched the 2025 edition of December in GH at a colourful ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of Jubilee House, Accra.

The event, attended by Mr Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, gathered key figures from government, the diplomatic corps, the creative arts industry, and the private sector. The launch marked the official opening of Ghana’s festive end-of-year calendar — one of Africa’s most vibrant celebrations of culture, music, and heritage.

In her speech, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, highlighted the increasing impact of the December in GH initiative in positioning Ghana as the continent’s preferred holiday destination.

She mentioned that the 2025 edition will build on the successes of previous years by enhancing collaboration across the creative, hospitality, and events sectors to provide world-class visitor experiences.

In his remarks, the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing the creative economy as a key pillar of national growth, stating: “December in GH is more than a celebration; it is a showcase of Ghana’s energy, culture, and global appeal. It embodies our vision of a modern tourism economy driven by creativity, inclusivity, and innovation. This year’s edition will project our nation’s unique identity and strengthen Ghana’s position as Africa’s gateway for cultural and experiential tourism.”

Delivering the keynote address, Mr Julius Debrah commended the Ministry and the GTA for their consistent efforts in promoting tourism as a motor of growth, job creation, and cultural exchange.

He praised the initiative’s contribution to national branding and its positive influence on small and medium enterprises within the tourism value chain.

Mr Rex Omar, Head of the Black Star Experience Secretariat, emphasised the vital role of the creative community in sustaining Ghana’s tourism renaissance. He noted that the Black Star Experience platform continues to develop as the heartbeat of December in GH, connecting global audiences with authentic Ghanaian stories.

“Our mission is to curate experiences that go beyond entertainment — to celebrate identity, creativity, and connection,” Mr Omar stated. “This year’s calendar reflects the growing confidence of our creative sector and its ability to drive tourism-led growth through innovation, partnerships, and excellence.”

The 2025 edition will showcase a diverse range of events nationwide — from concerts and cultural festivals to culinary showcases and diaspora reunions — curated under the Black Star Experience platform.

The official December in GH 2025 Calendar was also unveiled, highlighting approved activities scheduled throughout the festive season. Since its inception in 2019, December in GH has become a cornerstone of Ghana’s tourism strategy, attracting thousands of visitors each year and strengthening Ghana’s international reputation as a destination of warmth, creativity, and unity.

Through collaborations with event organisers, the diaspora community, and local creatives, GTA continues to promote a dynamic, inclusive tourism agenda.
