A/R: MP Baafi demands action after NHIA office shutdown in Ejisu
Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, has urged authorities to take immediate legal action over the closure of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Ejisu.
The facility was reportedly shut down by a group of angry youth, believed to be affiliated with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), who were protesting the appointment of a new manager.
Reacting to the development in an interview with JoyNews, Mr Baafi said the incident must be investigated without delay, with those responsible identified and prosecuted.
He stressed that taking firm action would discourage similar incidents.
He expressed concern over the development, noting that such actions raise questions about respect for the rule of law and public institutions.
He also pointed out the impact on workers and operations at the facility, questioning how a state institution could be forcibly shut down.
According to the MP, incidents of this nature threaten the country’s democratic progress and should not be allowed to persist. He emphasised the need to protect Ghana’s institutions through decisive enforcement of the law.
