Parliament approves GH¢8.7bn for DACF in 2026 Budget
Parliament has given the green light for an allocation of GH¢8.7 billion to the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for the 2026 financial year.
The amount, approved under the 2026 Appropriation Act, constitutes five per cent of the nation’s anticipated total revenue, in accordance with constitutional requirements.
The new figure of GH¢8,769,707,900 represents a notable rise from the GH¢7.51 billion earmarked for the Fund in 2025, indicating an increase of 16.78 per cent.
The DACF remains a crucial source of financing for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), enabling them to carry out governance functions and implement development initiatives across the country.
Per the approved arrangement, the funds will be shared using a structured formula built on fairness, openness, and data-driven benchmarks to guarantee equitable distribution.
This approach emphasises the use of accurate and detailed data to guide how resources are allocated among the assemblies, with the goal of fostering even development nationwide.
Parliament will also play a supervisory role to ensure the effective utilisation of the funds, with a focus on improving infrastructure and enhancing service delivery in communities across the country.
“The total allocation to the Fund for the 2026 fiscal year is based on five per cent of the projected total revenue for the year. Accordingly, an amount of GHC8,769,707,900 has been allocated to the Fund for 2026, compared to GHC7,510,000,000 allocated in 2025, representing an increase of 16.78 per cent.”
