Ghana Medical Trust Fund settles treatment cost for paralysed teacher after media campaign
A sustained media campaign by Obuasi TV in the Ashanti Region has led to critical medical support for a paralysed school teacher, Patricia Kanchonor, bringing relief after four years without adequate care.
Madam Kanchonor, a teacher at Adansi Fumso Primary School, suffered paralysis in the line of duty and struggled to access the necessary medical treatment.
Her situation gained national attention following a feature story titled “Paralysed But Not Defeated,” produced by journalist Chukwu Joseph, which sparked public interest and advocacy.
The case subsequently drew the attention of key stakeholders, including the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.
The Fund has now fully settled Madam Kanchonor’s medical bill of GHS181,724 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The support will cover the provision of implants as well as a total knee replacement surgery.
Obuasi TV expressed gratitude to individuals and institutions whose contributions and advocacy helped secure the intervention, describing the outcome as a testament to the impact of media-driven social support.
The development marks a significant step toward restoring the health and well-being of the teacher, while highlighting the importance of collective action in addressing critical social challenges.
