St. Michael's Specialist Hospital launches life-saving dialysis unit and eye clinic
St. Michael's Specialist Hospital at Lapaz in the Greater Accra Region has launched the "Sarpong Dialysis Unit" and Eye Clinic to tackle the growing challenge of kidney disease in Ghana.
The unit's inauguration marks a significant milestone in improving access to life-saving treatment for patients with kidney disease.
Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Board member, emphasised that kidney disease is a serious public health concern, and the dialysis unit will significantly improve treatment outcomes.
"The availability of basic dialysis machines will reduce the burden on patients and their families, and enhance the hospital's capacity to serve the community," he said.
The launch is a result of collaboration and dedication, with the hospital committed to investing in modern equipment and specialist services.
CEO Michael Banahene expressed gratitude to the board members for their efforts in advancing the hospital's mission.
Municipal Chief Executive Christian Tetteh Badger highlighted the significance of the dialysis unit, stating it marks a milestone in expanding access to specialised medical services.
The government has initiated the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund (Mama Cares) to support chronic Non-Communicable Diseases, reducing treatment costs.
The hospital's commitment to strong partnerships and accountability ensures the sustainability of the dialysis unit with the best clinical practices.
The launch is the beginning of a new era in healthcare delivery, with plans to intensify health education programmes and promote preventive care.
