Medical Council rolls out new initiatives to boost healthcare in Ghana
The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has unveiled several new initiatives aimed at improving the country's healthcare system.
Speaking at a press conference, Registrar Dr. Divine Banyubala highlighted the council's achievements, including the establishment of two new dental schools and two new medical schools, increasing training capacity by 180 slots.
The council is also working to decentralise postgraduate and basic training, and plans to introduce a new medical school in the northern sector.
'Additionally, we are revamping the systems, leveraging technology to enhance services, and engaging international partners to facilitate diaspora engagement and skills transfer.
Key initiatives include:
- Introducing a practitioner's stamp and policy to curb health insurance fraud
- Developing a standardised curriculum for medical and dental schools
- Offering postgraduate certificates, diplomas, and master's programmes in medical and dental education
- Hosting the 28th Annual Conference of the Association of Medical Councils in August 2026
Dr. Banyubala emphasised the council's commitment to ensuring professionals are held accountable for their actions and providing quality healthcare services to Ghanaians.
