Ghana Medical Trust Fund covers life-saving brain surgery for Wa Technical Institute tutor
The Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), commonly known as Mahama Cares, has funded a critical brain surgery for Mumuni Jamil, an ICT tutor at Wa Technical Institute in the Upper West Region, diagnosed with a rare and life-threatening brain Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM).

The family faced immense financial and emotional strain, with the required surgery at Euracare Advanced Diagnostics and Heart Centre costing GHS235,940. During transport from Wa to Accra, Mumuni suffered a critical episode that forced an emergency landing in Tamale, where doctors stabilised him before he continued to Accra for surgery.
The GMTF stepped in through its 50-pilot case intervention programme, covering the full cost of the complex procedure. The surgery was successful, and Mumuni has since regained his health and reunited with his family.

“In our darkest hour, you gave us light. In our moment of fear, you gave us reassurance. And in our time of helplessness you gave us hope”, Mumuni Baba Seidu, family head of the Mumuni family, said on a visit to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund office in Accra.
Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku reaffirmed the fund’s commitment to supporting critically ill Ghanaians, highlighting how collective compassion can turn near-tragedy into hope.
