Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed concern over the increasing levels of youth unemployment in Ghana, urging the government to account for its employment pledges.

Speaking at a leadership press briefing ahead of Parliament’s reopening on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Mr. Afenyo-Markin highlighted the severity of the unemployment challenge facing young Ghanaians.

He accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of delivering mostly on paper, citing programmes such as Adwumawura, the National Apprenticeship Programme, and Nkoko Nketenketen, which he said have produced limited measurable results.

“Reports show that about 34.4 per cent of our youth are unemployed, and this is unacceptable.

The question is, where are the jobs given all the promises?” he asked.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin added, “Even if there are any outcomes, they are very limited, and this is already their second year in office. The honeymoon is over.”

The Minority Leader’s remarks underscore growing public concern over the effectiveness of government initiatives aimed at addressing youth unemployment.
