Wa High Court sentences serial killer to life imprisonment

The Wa High Court has sentenced a man identified as Shariff Abdulai, also known as “Cristos,” to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to multiple murder charges.

According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service in the Upper West Region, the sentencing took place on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, following Abdulai’s arraignment before the court.

Police said the convict admitted responsibility for the killing of Issah Yahaya and several other victims across different parts of the country. The crimes were reported in Wa, Bole, Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.

Investigations by the police indicated that Abdulai confessed to killing sixteen people in Wa, five in Bole and one each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi.

Authorities explained that the suspect was arrested on October 6, 2025, after a series of intelligence-led operations conducted by the police.

Following his arrest, he was first taken before a District Magistrate Court before being committed to the High Court for trial. When the case was called on March 4, 2026, Abdulai, who was represented by counsel, pleaded guilty to the charges.

Presiding over the case, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi sentenced the convict to life imprisonment with hard labour based on his own plea.

Police said Abdulai will serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.

The Upper West Regional Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, assuring the public that the police will continue to pursue efforts to ensure safety and security for citizens.
