Police arrest 22 in anti-trafficking, cybercrime operation at Pokuase
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 22 suspects during a targeted intelligence-led operation at Pokuase-Afiaman in the Greater Accra Region over alleged human trafficking and organised cybercrime activities.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, February 12, 2026, was led by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, with support from Combat Teams and the Surveillance Unit.
It followed intelligence reports pointing to the existence of a criminal network operating in the area.
According to police sources, officers stormed a primary location at Pokuase-Afiaman where they uncovered what they described as a large-scale cyber fraud hub, commonly referred to as a “Yahoo Boy” base.
The suspects were reportedly found actively operating computer systems believed to be facilitating international internet fraud.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the group operated under a structured hierarchy, with certain individuals allegedly responsible for enforcing control and discipline over trafficked persons.
Police believe the syndicate forms part of a sophisticated transnational criminal network engaged in both human trafficking and cyber fraud.
Authorities also disclosed that some of the younger suspects may themselves be victims of coercion and forced labour.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to tackling organised crime and protecting vulnerable persons, stressing that all individuals involved in human trafficking and cyber-related offences will be pursued and brought to justice.
Investigations are ongoing.
