The Speaker of Parliament, Albans Sumana Kinsford Bagbin, has commissioned a newly renovated Awudome Traditional Council building and cut the sod for the construction of an eight-unit classroom block for Anyirawasi E.P. Primary School in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.

The event, brought together traditional authorities, government officials and residents in a ceremony marked by cultural display and community solidarity.

Speaker Bagbin, who also holds the traditional title Togbe Nutefeworla I of Awudome, described his enstoolment as a solemn responsibility rather than a ceremonial privilege. According to him, chieftaincy is anchored on service, sacrifice and an enduring commitment to the wellbeing of the people.

He stressed the need for Ghanaians to value their cultural heritage as a foundation for national development.

“No nation develops by despising its culture and traditions,” he noted, adding that indigenous knowledge and traditional institutions remain critical pillars for peace, stability and effective governance.

The renovation of the Awudome Traditional Council building, he indicated, was undertaken in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho West, Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah. 

He stated that restoring the edifice was essential to preserving its dignity and reinforcing its authority as a symbol of unity and dispute resolution in the area.

Beyond the renovation project, the speaker reaffirmed his commitment to education by cutting the sod for an eight-unit classroom block for Anyirawasi E.P. Primary School. He described children as the country’s most valuable resource and emphasized the need for continuous investment in their education to secure Ghana’s future.

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, commended the collaboration between traditional and political leaders. He highlighted the role of traditional authorities in driving local development, noting that the Volta Region has about 100 paramouncies that require sustained support to operate effectively.

The event underscored the growing partnership between traditional institutions and the political leadership in advancing education, safeguarding culture and promoting development within the Volta Region.
