The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has inaugurated a new ambulance station, AMBU 43, at its headquarters in Accra.

The facility is strategically located behind the National Lottery Authority along the Atta Mills High Street, positioning it to respond swiftly to emergencies within key parts of the capital.

The opening of AMBU 43 is the result of a collaborative effort between NAS Headquarters and the Greater Accra Regional Administration.

With this addition, the total number of ambulance stations across the country has increased to 320.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of NAS, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, stated that the expansion forms part of ongoing efforts to reduce emergency response times and improve pre-hospital care delivery.

He noted that in emergency situations, rapid intervention can make the difference between life and death, adding that the presence of a dedicated team within the Central Business District will significantly enhance service efficiency.

The new station is equipped with an Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance and is expected to respond to emergencies in and around key state institutions and public facilities, including the Judiciary, various Ministries, the National Theatre of Ghana, and the Atta-Mills Highway and its surrounding areas.

Greater Accra Regional Administrator, DCEMT Daniel Asare, expressed appreciation to the NAS Board and Management for their commitment to strengthening emergency medical services in the region.

The opening of AMBU 43 underscores NAS’s continued drive to expand access to timely and quality emergency healthcare services nationwide.
