Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced plans to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Belarus following a meeting with the country’s Foreign Minister, Maxim Ryzhenkov.

According to Mr Ablakwa, the two countries are seeking to expand collaboration in several key sectors, including mechanised agriculture, education, defence and cybersecurity.

The Foreign Affairs Minister disclosed this after receiving Mr Ryzhenkov during an official visit, which he described as “memorable and impactful.”

Mr. Ablakwa said Ghana and Belarus are committed to strengthening their long-standing relations and exploring new areas of cooperation to support development goals.

A major area of focus, he noted, is mechanised agriculture and tractor production, which Ghana intends to leverage to support the government’s flagship food security programme.

The initiative, known as the Feed Ghana programme, is a key policy priority of President John Dramani Mahama aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.

Beyond agriculture, the two countries have also agreed to begin negotiations on a visa waiver agreement to facilitate easier travel between Ghana and Belarus.

Mr. Ablakwa further indicated that both sides will pursue stronger collaboration in education, defence cooperation and cybersecurity, areas considered critical for strengthening bilateral ties.

He expressed optimism that the discussions would open a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

According to him, the growing partnership signals promising prospects for cooperation between Ghana and Belarus in the years ahead.
