Entertainment analyst Ola Michael says Ghana now has the capacity to organise large international concerts without worrying about damage to stadium pitches, following the introduction of protective pitch covers.

Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV Ghana, he addressed the long-running debate about using the Accra Sports Stadium for musical events.

According to him, concerts held at the stadium—especially those involving top Ghanaian musicians like Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy—often attract criticism from some members of the sports community.

Critics have argued that such events destroy the pitch and that stadiums should be reserved strictly for football.

Ola Michael, however, believes those concerns should no longer be an issue.

He explained that many stadiums around the world host large concerts successfully because they use proper infrastructure, such as pitch cover,s to protect the field.

He added that discussions about acquiring these covers were largely pushed by people within the entertainment industry who wanted better venues for large shows.

Their push, he said, eventually led to investments in the protective equipment.

The entertainment pundit also noted that the covers are not only protecting the playing surface but are also creating economic opportunities. Events held at stadiums generate revenue and provide jobs for many people working behind the scenes.

With the covers now available, he said other venues across the country can also stage big musical events without fear of damaging their pitches.

Cities like Kumasi, he explained, could benefit from hosting major concerts just like Accra
