From locked tracks to loud voices: Larusso opens up about his career
Ghanaian dancehall artist Larusso recently offered an in-depth look into his journey in the music industry during an interview on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayeeko, hosted by Doctor Kay Nie.
Speaking passionately about the dancehall scene, Larusso highlighted the influence of top artists Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, describing them as the guiding lights of the genre.
“Whatever message they are putting down for dancehall, that is true dancehall.
They have set a high standard, and if you follow that path with humility, you can go a long way,” he said, emphasising the importance of learning from those who have paved the way.
Larusso also opened up about the struggles and obstacles he has faced in carving out his music career.
“You have to face challenges along the way; making music is like a stepping stone—you grow with each experience,” he noted. He candidly discussed his ongoing battles with royalties and ownership rights, revealing that his previous management and record label had restricted his access to his own work.
“I fulfilled all five years of my contract with my record label, but I didn’t have control over my music.
I struggled even with my images, and they didn’t allow me to upload my songs freely,” Larusso explained.
“I had to find every opportunity I could to share my music with the world.
There are still other things I haven’t fully sorted out, but for now, my focus is on creating and bringing more music to my fans.”
