Paul Biya, , has been officially declared winner of the presidential election in Cameroon.

The ruling was announced by the country’s Constitutional Council on Monday, October 27, 2025, reporting that Biya won 53.66% of the vote, while his former ally, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, had 35.19%.

Cameroon went to the polls on October 12.

Aged 92, Biya is the world’s oldest head of state, securing a historic eighth term in office. He has been in power since 1982, and the new seven-year tenure could keep him in power until he is nearly 100.

Bakary has also claimed victory, and reported gunfire near his home. Denouncing the results, and citing a lack of credibility, he has called for national dialogue.
