Crystal Palace lifted the Community Shield after edging Liverpool 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out at Wembley, following a 2-2 draw in normal time

It was another historic moment for the Eagles, who, only in May secured their first-ever major trophy by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final at the same venue.
This time, they twice came from behind to stun the Premier League champions, with substitute Justin Devenny netting the decisive spot-kick after goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved two penalties and Mohamed Salah fired another over the bar.
The victory brought jubilation to Palace supporters, who used the occasion to voice their anger at UEFA.
The club’s appeal against their demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League – due to multi-club ownership concerns – will be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday.
Banners protesting the decision were visible throughout the stands.
Liverpool’s big-money summer signings initially looked set to dominate the headlines.
Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong both found the net, while Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz combined to produce some slick attacking moves.
Ekitike and Wirtz each missed chances to put the game out of Palace’s reach after the break.
However, defensive lapses cost the Reds.
Virgil van Dijk’s clumsy challenge on Ismaila Sarr gifted Jean-Philippe Mateta the chance to equalise from the penalty spot, before the Dutchman was caught out of position when Adam Wharton released Sarr to drive in Palace’s second equaliser via the post.
Palace threatened throughout, with Eberechi Eze forcing a fine save from Alisson, and the Eagles controversially denied a penalty when the ball appeared to hit Alexis Mac Allister’s raised arm.
Devenny came close to sealing the win in stoppage time, firing inches wide with the last kick of the match.
In the shoot-out, though, he made no mistake – ensuring Palace’s second Wembley triumph in three months and a perfect start to their season.
