Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Monday, August 18, 2025, held a high-level meeting with the leadership of the Ghana Prisons Service, led by the Director-General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, to discuss the challenges confronting the Service and explore ways of addressing them.
The Vice President emphasised the importance of strengthening public education on prison reforms and urged closer collaboration with state agencies and the media to enhance public understanding and support.
She commended the Service for its ongoing interventions, particularly its promising campaign in agriculture, describing it as a vital step toward sustainability and rehabilitation.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving conditions within the country’s prisons, stressing the need for reforms that prioritise both dignity and reintegration.
“As a responsible nation, it is our duty to ensure dignified conditions for inmates, to offer meaningful reforms, and to provide the necessary support for their reintegration into society,” she stated.
