NPP Youth Wing to stage protest over police ‘harassment’ of members on Sept.23

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to hold a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in protest against what it calls “state-sponsored harassment” of its members by the Ghana Police Service.
The decision was made public by the party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.
The protest follows the remand of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC. On Monday, September 8, he was arrested on charges of “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.”
An Accra Circuit Court subsequently ordered him to remain in custody for two weeks to allow further investigations.
Reacting to the development, Salam Mustapha announced:'On Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demonstration against the state-sponsored police harassment.
From Obra Spot to the Police Headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”
The demonstration is expected to attract large numbers of NPP supporters, particularly from the youth wing, who insist they will resist what they describe as politically motivated actions by state institutions.
In addition to Abronye’s case, the party is grappling with other legal battles.
Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is currently under investigation for alleged fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Several other NPP affiliates have also been arrested in recent weeks in connection with separate cases.
