Minority on quest to only entertain angry NPP supporters -Mahdi Jibril

Mahdi Jibril, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the conduct of the Minority in Parliament, describing their actions as mere theatrics aimed at appeasing their disillusioned supporters following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show with host Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku, Mr. Jibril accused the Minority of engaging in political showmanship, saying their activities in the House are more about optics than substance.
"All the Minority has done since President Mahama assumed office is to entertain their angry supporters.
They walk out today and return tomorrow, all to create the illusion that they are fighting for something," he remarked.
“They haven’t won a single debate in the seven months of this Ninth Parliament.”
He argued that the NPP Minority is only posturing to deflect the internal backlash from its base following the party's electoral loss and struggles in opposition.
According to Mr. Jibril, their frequent walkouts and confrontational postures are calculated moves to appear active in the eyes of party supporters.
Commenting on broader NPP actions, Mr. Jibril said the party has become lacklustre and indecisive in opposition.
He cited the party’s recent withdrawal from the Ablekuma North re-run election as a prime example.
He criticised the NPP’s handling of the boycott, stating that the party failed to follow the proper legal procedures by not officially notifying the Electoral Commission (EC) in writing.
“They told their supporters they were boycotting, but didn’t even bother to inform the EC officially.
That’s not how serious parties behave, leading to the party's Parliamentary Candidate, Nana Owusu Afriyie, defying the party to run,” he said.
