Mahama issues stern ultimatum to appointees over asset declaration

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a firm directive to all government appointees who failed to meet the March 31 deadline for asset declaration, warning that they will face automatic dismissal if they do not comply by Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
The President made the announcement during the official launch of the Code of Conduct for Public Officials, held on Monday, May 5.
He stated unequivocally that the directive applies to all appointees who assumed office before the deadline, stressing that compliance with asset declaration laws is a critical measure to promote transparency and accountability in public service.
President Mahama also announced that any salaries forfeited as a result of non-compliance will be redirected to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares).
The fund will be used to support the treatment of Ghanaians battling chronic health conditions such as kidney failure, cancer, and heart disease.
“The days of impunity are over,” President Mahama declared. “Public service must be built on integrity, and we cannot allow officials who refuse to meet basic legal requirements to continue in office.”
He further urged public officials to protect their reputation and act in the public interest, warning against accepting gifts or engaging in practices that favour family and friends over the welfare of citizens.
“The people of Ghana expect and deserve a government that serves them, not personal interests or private networks,” he said.
