Deputy Minister expresses relief over progress in resolving Bawku conflict
The Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Member of Parliament for Dadekotopon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, has expressed relief over the progress being made toward resolving the long-standing Bawku conflict.
Speaking on the issue in an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Chief Jerry Forson on Accra 100.5 FM on Wednesday, Madam Sowah acknowledged that while challenges remain, recent developments have provided renewed hope for lasting peace in the conflict-prone area.
She commended the efforts of traditional authorities, security agencies and government institutions working collaboratively to de-escalate tensions and promote dialogue among the parties involved.
According to her, sustained engagement and respect for traditional conflict-resolution mechanisms are critical to achieving durable peace.
She also urged residents of Bawku and surrounding communities to remain calm and support ongoing peace processes, stressing that peace is essential for development and social cohesion.
The Deputy Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring stability in Bawku and other areas affected by chieftaincy and communal disputes, noting that the Ministry will continue to work closely with relevant stakeholders to consolidate the gains made so far.
She expressed optimism that with continued cooperation and goodwill, the progress achieved could pave the way for a permanent resolution to the conflict.
