The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Richard Kofi Asiedu, has issued a heartfelt statement mourning the tragic loss of eight national figures who perished in the military helicopter crash at Adansi Akrofuom on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a message released on behalf of the regional branch of the party, Dr. Asiedu expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the bereaved families, the nation, and all institutions affected by what he described as the loss of “eight of our most dedicated and patriotic citizens.”

The victims include:

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence

Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment

Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice Chairman

Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate

Squadron Leader Peter Anala, Ghana Air Force

Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Ghana Air Force

Sergeant Ernest Addo, Ghana Armed Forces

The Chairman noted the immense contributions of the deceased to national development and democratic service, describing them as men who served “not only with their minds and skills but also with their hearts and lives.”

Dr. Asiedu gave special tribute to Dr. Samuel Sarpong, a stalwart of the NDC and Vice Chairman of the party, praising his wisdom, humility, and unwavering loyalty.

He also highlighted the dedication of Mr. Samuel Aboagye, whose passion for public service was evident through his pursuit of elected office.

In a poignant reflection, Dr. Asiedu acknowledged the narrow escape of President John Dramani Mahama, who was initially scheduled to be on board the ill-fated flight.

He described the survival of the President as a “stark reminder of life’s fragility” and called for renewed vigilance in national safety and logistics.

“May this tragedy serve as a wake-up call to improve our transport safety protocols, uphold stringent maintenance regimes, and strengthen contingency plans at all levels of national operation,” the statement urged.

The NDC Central Region Chairman further appealed for national unity, calling on all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to come together in reflection, prayer, and shared mourning.

“Your pain is Ghana’s pain, and your grief is shared by all of us in the NDC, especially in the Central Region,” he said to the bereaved families.

 

The statement concluded with a prayer for the souls of the deceased and a call for their memories to inspire renewed patriotism and collective purpose across Ghana.
