Amenfi East MP and constituency executives attacked

Tensions flared in Amenfi East on Wednesday after a violent clash allegedly involving the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Raymond Nana Ebbah, and his alleged supporters left several political figures injured, including executives of the ruling party in the constituency.
In a statement issued by the Amenfi East Constituency Chairman, Nana Kofi Atokyi, the incident was described as a “barbaric attack” on Member of Parliament Mr Nicholas Amankwah, the Constituency Secretary Mr. Moses Gyetuah, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator, and other party officials.
According to the statement, the attack stemmed from disagreements over the appointment of a District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) Coordinator.
The MCE, who had reportedly pushed for his preferred candidate, allegedly mobilised thugs after the Assembly leadership and the Western Regional DRIP Team endorsed Kwabena Amo Fosu as Coordinator.
The violence, which unfolded in the presence of the Municipal Police Commander and his men, saw the Constituency Secretary and Zongo Caucus Coordinator assaulted with cutlasses, resulting in serious injuries.
The constituency executives condemned the assault as an “affront to democracy and a grave threat to the safety of elected officials.”
They demanded the immediate suspension of the MCE pending investigations and called on the Western Regional Police Command and national security agencies to arrest and prosecute all perpetrators.
“This unprovoked attack is not only criminal but also a deliberate attempt to silence dissenting voices and undermine the democratic process,” the statement read.
The executives reaffirmed their solidarity with the MP, the injured officers, and the DRIP Coordinator, vowing not to be intimidated.
They also urged citizens to join in condemning what they described as “a brazen act of violence.”
Meanwhile, the MCE, Raymond Nana Ebbah, speaking in an interview on the Ghana Yensom Morning show hosted by Otafriga Kaayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Thursday, September 11, denied any involvement in the said incident.
He categorically denies any connection with the Wednesday incident, adding that he had no hand in it
