63 Minority MPs endorse Bawumia for NPP 2028
In a major political development ahead of the 2026 presidential elections of the opposition New Patriotic Party, 63 Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Minority side have declared their firm support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to become the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The announcement was made at a press conference addressed by the Member of Parliament for Mampong, Mr. Kweku Ampratwum Sarpong, who described Dr. Bawumia as the most qualified, visionary, and unifying figure to lead the NPP into the next general elections and beyond.
M. Ampratwum Sarpong confirmed that 63 MPs have voluntarily signed a formal declaration endorsing Dr. Bawumia, with two additional MPs subsequently joining the endorsement, bringing the total number of supporters to 65.
He stressed that all signatories willingly appended their names and that the documents verifying the endorsements are available for inspection.
“Every single MP on this list endorsed Dr. Bawumia of their own free will.
There was no coercion or inducement. Their decision reflects confidence in his leadership, loyalty, and proven commitment to Ghana’s progress,”Mr Ampratwum Sarpong stated.
The Minority MPs praised Dr. Bawumia’s leadership qualities, discipline, and track record as Vice President, citing his contributions to digital transformation, financial inclusion, and economic innovation.
They described him as a visionary leader whose blend of humility and intelligence has earned him respect across political and social divides.
According to the group, Dr. Bawumia’s achievements — including the introduction of digital platforms such as the Ghanacard integration, Mobile Money interoperability, and reforms in the banking and payment sectors — are clear evidence of his ability to modernise governance and improve public service delivery.
“Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated that he is not only capable of thinking ahead but also delivering results that touch the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.
He embodies the next chapter of the NPP’s story — one defined by innovation, unity, and performance,” the spokesperson added.
The MPs called on all NPP members and delegates nationwide to rally behind Dr. Bawumia’s presidential ambition, arguing that his leadership represents the continuity of progress and reform initiated under the current administration.
They emphasised that the Vice President’s humility, loyalty to the party, and consistent dedication to national service make him the ideal candidate to lead the NPP to victory in 2028 and sustain Ghana’s development agenda.
“Dr. Bawumia has served the party with distinction, stood by the government through challenging times, and proven that he has both the vision and resilience to lead Ghana to a brighter future,” Mr. Ampratwum Sarpong declared.
The MPs endorsing Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy are drawn from various regions and constituencies across the country, signalling a broad base of support within the party.
Their collective endorsement, they say, reflects the growing confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership among lawmakers and grassroots members alike.
The statement concluded with an appeal to delegates and party members to reward Dr. Bawumia’s hard work, loyalty, and results-driven leadership with their votes when the NPP elects its flagbearer.
“The time has come to trust the man who has worked tirelessly for the party, for the people, and for Ghana,” the statement said.
