Western North police launches special operation to arrest reckless tricycle riders

The Western North Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Dr. Francis Kwame Tsidi, has launched a special operation to clamp down on unlicensed and reckless tricycle riders, as part of efforts to improve road safety across the region.
The operation, which began on May 28, 2025, is aimed at addressing the increasing number of road crashes attributed to the irresponsible use of motorcycles and tricycles.
According to the police, several individuals were arrested during the crackdown for operating unregistered tricycles, riding without valid licenses, and engaging in dangerous conduct on public roads.
Following their arrest, the offenders were arraigned before the District Magistrate Court in Sefwi Wiawso, presided over by His Worship Eric Baah Boateng.
The accused persons pleaded guilty to the charges and were subsequently sentenced to seven days in prison with hard labour. In addition, the court imposed various fines on the culprits, warning that those unable to pay would serve an alternative 90-day prison term with hard labour.
The operation was carried out within the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality and is expected to serve as a deterrent to other recalcitrant riders, while contributing significantly to the reduction of road accidents in the area.
In a statement, Deputy Superintendent of Police Michael Nkekesi, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western North Region, assured the public that the enforcement campaign would be sustained to ensure road safety across the region.
He urged all tricycle and motorcycle riders to comply with road safety regulations and operate within the confines of the law to avoid prosecution.
