Krachi West MCE Calls for extended naval patrols after Volta Lake tragedy

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West Municipal Assembly in the Oti Region, Mr. Prosper Kwaku Addo, has disclosed that the Ghana Maritime Authority and the Ghana Navy will extend their patrol operations on the Volta Lake to help prevent further accidents and safeguard lives.
This announcement follows a tragic boat accident over the weekend that claimed 16 lives, including 11 children.
Speaking during a visit to the bereaved families, Mr. Addo said measures are being implemented to intensify surveillance and patrols across the lake to enhance safety for travellers and communities that depend on water transport.
He appealed to boat operators and passengers to strictly adhere to safety regulations, including the use of life jackets and proper loading procedures, to prevent future disasters.
In an interview with Class 91.3 FM, the MCE expressed concern that some authorities had failed to fully enforce safety measures on the lake.
He pledged that the Municipal Assembly would work closely with relevant agencies to ensure that all responsible bodies live up to their mandate.
Mr. Addo extended his condolences to the affected families and urged them to remain strong in this difficult time, assuring them of the assembly’s continued support.
