Interior Minister secures firefighting partnership with Trenton city in New Jersey

Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarik Muntaka, has met with the Mayor of Trenton, New Jersey, Hon. W. Reed Gusciora, to explore new areas of cooperation aimed at strengthening Ghana’s emergency response systems.
As part of his visit, the Minister was warmly received at the Trenton Fire Department, where he was given a guided tour of the facilities and briefed on the department’s advanced operational systems and emergency response mechanisms.
The engagement has paved the way for a partnership in which the City of Trenton, in collaboration with other U.S. municipalities, will support the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) through specialised training programmes and the donation of modern firefighting equipment.
According to officials, the training will expose GNFS personnel to international best practices in firefighting, disaster preparedness, and emergency response.
The donation of essential equipment is also expected to bridge logistical gaps and improve the ability of Ghana’s firefighters to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.
Minister Muntaka described the collaboration as more than a technical exchange, noting that it symbolises solidarity and a shared commitment to public safety.
“By leveraging each other’s expertise and experience, both sides reaffirm their dedication to protecting lives and safeguarding communities,” he said.
He was accompanied on the visit by officials of Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, who continue to play a key role in advancing Ghana’s diplomatic and developmental partnerships in the United States.
