The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has embarked on unannounced monitoring visits to selected schools as the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) commenced for the first term of the 2025/2026 academic year.

The Minister visited Nungua Presbyterian Basic Schools, where she interacted with pupils, teachers, and caterers, and observed the serving of meals.

She also toured Field Engineer ‘A’ and ‘B’ Basic Schools in the Ledzokuku Municipality, as well as several schools under the Nungua KroMa cluster (1–7) in the Krowor Municipality.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Lartey explained that the exercise formed part of ongoing spot checks to ensure caterers meet their obligations.

She stressed that similar monitoring visits would be carried out across the country.

Commenting on the recent increment of the feeding grant from GHS 1.50 to GHS 2.00, the Minister described the move as a gradual process, assuring that the government, in collaboration with stakeholders, would work to secure steady improvements to further strengthen the programme.

She urged caterers to prepare nutritious, quality meals to support pupils’ growth, health, and learning outcomes.

At the same time, she cautioned that any caterer who fails to cook for five consecutive days would face sanctions and possible replacement, warning that the government would not compromise on children’s well-being.

Dr. Lartey expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for approving the increment and signing into law the Social Protection Act, which she said provides a stronger legal framework for interventions such as the GSFP.

She was accompanied by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the National Coordinator of the GSFP, Hajia Fati Forgor, and other senior officials.
