GA/R: Tensions erupt at Tema site three as TDC demolishes shops

Residents of Site Three at Tema in the Greater Accra Region have expressed anger and frustration over a demolition exercise being carried out by the Tema Development Company Limited (TDC), describing it as sudden, unfair, and executed without proper community consultation.
According to the residents, the TDC gave little to no prior notice before moving in to tear down structures, sparking confusion and distress among affected shop owners.
The company reportedly plans to construct new commercial stores on the cleared land, which will eventually be leased out.
The situation escalated when military personnel and task force members were deployed to the site to support the demolition. Residents accused the security team of using force and intimidation, further fuelling tensions in the area.
Several affected individuals, in interviews with Accra 100.5 FM's journalist Rebecca Lartey, made emotional appeals to government officials to intervene, stating that the demolitions have put their livelihoods at risk.
Assemblyman for the Ashiboi Electoral Area, Mr Godsway Dzene Franklin, also raised concerns about the conduct of TDC.
He called on the company to halt the exercise and engage in dialogue with community members to explore a more peaceful and transparent approach to redevelopment.
The residents are demanding immediate action from authorities to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns addressed before any further demolition takes place.
